Known as the king of Italian carnivals, born in 1873, Viareggio enchants with its gigantic allegorical floats, true papier-mâché masterpieces parading along the seafront promenade. The creations, the result of months of work, represent political and social satire with biting irony, making each edition unique and current. The city comes alive with parties, concerts, and dances, transforming the atmosphere into an explosion of joy and creativity.
Boasting the title of Italy's oldest carnival, Foiano della Chiana offers a traditional celebration rooted in history. Its parades of allegorical floats, masterfully created by the town's four historic districts, bring to life fantastic and current themes. The highlight of the celebrations is the burning of King Giocondo, a symbol of the end of winter and the upcoming spring.
In Castiglion Fibocchi, the Carnival of the Children of Bocco stands out for its Venetian charm, with participants wearing elaborately designed costumes and papier-mâché masks. This event transforms the medieval village into an open-air stage, where magic, art, and mystery blend into an unforgettable experience.
Since February 5th, 1910, when a carnival ball was organized in a hotel room, the carnival animates the winters of Follonica. It celebrates Maremma culture and art with a series of parades of allegorical floats that bring satire, humor, and bright colors to the city streets. Each float is accompanied by dance groups and music, creating a festive atmosphere. The culmination of the celebrations is the burning of the Carnival King, a moment of collective sharing that marks the end of the festivities.
In 1928, some villagers of Santa Croce sull'Arno decided to dress up to enliven the dull winter days, taking to the streets with ox-drawn floats. Unique in its kind, the Santacrocese Carnival stands out for its artisan masks, often entirely made of leather, the symbolic material of the city. The parades of allegorical floats and musical performances evoke tradition and innovation, celebrating the community and its artisanal history. The event is a tribute to local creativity and manufacturing excellence.
Each Carnival is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the cultural traditions of Tuscany, experiencing moments of pure happiness and participation.
